| SeattleSNPs Variation Workshop |
|
The variation workshop focuses on the latest approaches for identifying SNPs and evaluating associations and linkage disequilibrium with other genetic markers. Small group discussions and computer demonstrations are used to demostrate the advantages and disadvantages of these approaches. A unique feature of our workshop is that attendees are able to submit candidate genes for variation analysis using SeattleSNP resources. We plan to accept up to five genes (average size 25 kb) a year from workshop participants.
Workshop participants are also actively involved in data analysis, using internal and external software tools to find and type SNPs either in candidate genes which are currently being sequenced by SeattleSNPs or on genes they have submitted for analysis to the resource.
WORKSHOP APPLICATION
To apply for this workshop, you will need to submit:
1. A curriculum vitae
2. A written statement (no more than 2 pages) on how participation in this workshop would benefit your current or planned research activities.
3. For investigators submitting genes for variation analysis, please submit an additional statement on how the SNP data will be used and how it may benefit your current or planned funded research, along with an agreement that all the variants discovered by the resource can be immediately released to the public. Priority access to the workshop will be given to investigators with funding from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and to those with planned research of interest to the NHLBI
You will receive a confirmation email immediately upon completing your application. If you have any questions, please write to Eric Torskey at ejt@u.washington.edu
There is no charge for the workshop itself; any travel and lodging expenses are the responsibility of the individuals attending the workshop. SeattleSNPs will reserve a block of rooms at a nearby hotel for out-of-town participants.
The deadline for applications is January 30, 2006.
